Currently based in Kobe, Japan, Mark Stoughton, Ph.D. is a visiting researcher at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies. He is engaged in a 3-year research program to assess the use of innovative service-based business models to generate environmentally sound value-added and competitive advantage in the Japanese and Asian context. He maintains a working relationship with CSP, particularly regarding issues relating to the viability and potential of the CMS model in Asia and Japan.

While in Japan, he maintains a position with The Cadmus Group, an environmental consulting and research firm headquartered in Boston. Previously, Dr. Stoughton served as Research Manager with CSP, where he engaged in research and analysis of the larger CMS market, and of market and organizational barriers to CMS adoption. He has worked extensively on business and environmental issues, using life-cycle and full-cost accounting techniques to inform both corporate strategy and public policy. Principal clients include the US EPA, State Environmental Agencies, private sector firms, the National Academy of Public Administration and the US Agency for International Development.

Dr. Stoughton received his Ph.D. in Technology, Management and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds masters degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and in Technology and Policy, also from MIT.
